Why should I choose Animation?

There are many different reasons why animation is the BEST choice for you but here is a list of benefits and things to consider before starting your animation journey.

 ✔ Benefits

  • Great for explaining complex topics with ease.

  • No need for actors or yourselves to be on camera (great if you’re camera shy).

  • Countless styles and designs available - if can you think it, we can make it!

  • No more postponing shoots because of bad weather - it’s always sunny in animation land (unless you want rain? We can totally make it rain!).

❔ CONSiderations

  • Can take longer to create than conventional video, therefore might not be suitable for tight deadlines.

  • Compared to conventional video the overall cost may be slightly higher, due to time required for production.

Here’s a great example of a complex topic being explained by animation.

OK, OK! But how much is this going to cost?

‘How much does animation cost?’ is a question we get asked a lot, but sadly there is no simple answer as there are a few things you will need to bear in mind.

  • Firstly, how long does the animation need to be (roughly)?

  • How are we going to present the animation - are there key characters on screen (and if so how many?), or just a voiceover?

  • Do we have to stick to a certain art style or do you need us to conceptualise some ideas for you?

Don’t worry if you don’t have the answers right away. Often, the best place to start is with a call so that we can find these answers together.

For a more in depth look into this topic, check out this video (and yes, it’s animated 😉).

Who we’ve worked with

Sounds great! So, what happens next?

CONGRATULATIONS on deciding to go ahead and use animation for your next project. Right, here’s the game plan:

Watch the video, or read on below.

Step 1 - Pre-Production

This is where you hand over your brief, or our production team will work with you to create one. We discuss budgets, art styles, procure voiceover artists and work with you to finalise a script.

Once we have all the details we need our illustrators will sketch out a story board - this is a rough comic-book style layout of how the whole video will play out and gives you a chance to make any changes before production formally starts.

When everything is signed off and you are happy with how the animation is going to look we hand you over to our animators…

STEP 2 - ANIMATION

Once we have everything in place from the previous stage, we can then move on to Production. We will send the scripts to our chosen voice-over artist. Once we’ve received their audio we can begin animating.

The animating process itself will no doubt be the most time consuming part of the project, but it will also be the most straightforward if Pre-Production has been conducted properly.

For much of this stage we won’t need to be in regular contact with you, although we may require your input if we realise something was overlooked during Pre-Production that we need clarification on.

STEP 3 - DELIVERY

VOILA! Your animation is finished! Well, almost… we’re not going to just hand it over and disappear from the face of the earth. Instead, we’ll have a quick review phase. This will give you an opportunity to request any amendments you may want before the final product is delivered.

Typically, for most projects we allow for 2 rounds of amendments.

Why is animation so expensive?

Like anything where you have to create something from smaller moving parts, the more work involved the more expensive it inevitably becomes being. Even with simpler animations there are a lot of assets that need creating, manipulating, and animating. That’s without mentioning all the transitions, scene movements, sound design and backing tracks. On bigger projects where the assets are all created bespoke for one particular brand, an illustrator may spend weeks building assets that can be animated into the scenes. These scenes have backgrounds and props which are also all built by hand. All of these factors contribute to what can be an expensive project. If you’re on a tight budget, let us know and we can build a project bespoke to your needs.
